Softball Drops Mid-Week Meeting at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball paused league play to head across town for a mid-week match-up with Creighton Wednesday night. The Bluejays snuck out a 4-2 win over the Mavericks. Lexi Burkhardt led Omaha with two hits in the game.

With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 7-21 on the year.

How It Happened
  • The Bluejays took an early edge over the Mavericks plating the first run in the bottom of the second. Cantu singled to the short stop to bring Croker across home for the first run. 
  • Omaha quickly tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third. Sydney Ross singled to shortstop allowing Lynsey Tucker who got a good jump off the pitch to score for the Mavericks.
  • It quickly became a two-tun game in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer from Mills to give the edge back to Creighton.
  • Omaha kept its bats alive in the fourth earning another run. Allison Helton doubled for the first hit of the inning. Alexa Sedlak used a grounder to second base to advance Helton to third. Helton eventually scored on a single to shortstop from Emily Klosterman bringing the Mavericks within one.
  • The Bluejays plated their final run of the game in the fourth to win 4-2.

  • The Mavericks were out-hit 6-5.
  • Burkhardt led Omaha with two hits, while Ross, Helton, and Klosterman tallied the other three.
  • Helton tallied Omaha's only stolen base in the game.
  • Sydney Hampton made the start in the circle for the Mavericks. She tallied three strikeouts and falls to 3-7 on the year.
  • Kamryn Meyer came in for relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings. She retired six batters.

The Mavericks return home to host Western Illinois for a pair of conference doubleheaders this weekend. Saturday's meeting will feature the Connie Claussen Field dedication at 2:30 p.m. between the games.
