Mavericks Drop Two at SDSU

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha resumed Summit League action at South Dakota State Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader vs. the Jackrabbits. SDSU took game one, 8-0, in five innings and game two, 9-1, in six innings. The teams will meet again tomorrow for another pair of games.
 
With the losses, Omaha falls to 7-18 (2-4) on the year.

Game 1: South Dakota State 8, Omaha 0 (5 inn.)
How It Happened
  • It took an inning for the Jackrabbits to find their groove, but in the second they'd connect and put two on the board to take an early lead. Yoder tripled to right field and scored on the next at-bat when Lenox hit a two-run homer to right center.
  • Alexa Sedlak connected in the top of the third for Omaha with a single down the left field line, but she'd get out at second followed by two straight Maverick outs.
  • SDSU added another in the third. Osmundson scored on a Halvorson triple to center to extend the lead 3-0.
  • Jamie White and Lexi Burkhardt opened the fourth with back-to-back singles, but two runners were left stranded as the Mavericks couldn't keep the rally going.
  • A five-run fourth inning clinched the win for SDSU. Fourth inning action was highlighted by another two-run homer from Lenox. Jackrabbits win 8-0 in five.

  • Sedlak's base hit in the third extended her hitting streak to three straight games.
  • White and Burkhardt tallied the other two Omaha hits.
  • White finished a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate with one walk.
  • Sydney Nuismer made the start in the circle and fell to 1-6 this season. She retired four batters over four innings of work.

How It Happened
  • Lenox sent a three-run homer over the fence in right center to tally three RBI in the first inning for the Jackrabbits giving SDSU an early 3-0 edge, but that would be it for scoring in the early part of the game.
  • Lynsey Tucker connected for a base hit in the third inning, and Diana Murtha in the fourth.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, SDSU added three more to the board. Osmundson and Elliott scored on a pair of sac flies in the inning, while Christiancy was plated on a single from Culver.
  • Allison Helton scored Omaha's lone run in the top of the sixth following a wild pitch. The Mavericks had a chance to cut into the lead with loaded bases, but the three would get stranded to end the inning.
  • Halvorson singled to left field with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Lenox ended the game early with a walk-off double to left center that plated two more Jackrabbits. SDSU wins 9-1.
