OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's tennis hosted Marquette Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles edged the Mavericks, 5-2, after capturing the doubles point and four singles points.

Omaha falls to 5-6 on the year.

Marquette took the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles, both, 6-4, over Omaha to capture the doubles point.

The Golden Eagles got ahead 2-0 in the match after taking the No. 6 singles. Lillian Tiemeyer fell in both sets, 6-1. Madison Gallegos brought the Mavericks within one point of the Eagles after taking the No. 1 spot next. Gallegos downed Natalija Popovic, 6-0 and 6-2.

Marquette took the No. 4 and No. 3 singles for two more points helped clinch the win for Eagles. Omaha picked up their final point of the match in the No. 5 spot as Kelley won, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2. The final singles point would go to the Eagles to secure a 5-2 win.

"Not the result we wanted," said head coach Adam Summitt. "We competed well enough to put ourselves in a position to win, and we just didn't capitalize. Doubles was a key point and Marquette just played well enough to sneak out the point. We have to regroup and learn from this before next weekend."

The Mavericks return to action with two home matches next weekend. Omaha will host Creighton March 12 at 7 p.m., and St. Thomas March 13 at 2:30 p.m.
