Mavericks Fall To No. 9/8 OSU

STILLWATER, Okla. – Omaha softball opened its third tournament of the 2021 season at Oklahoma State Friday afternoon. The Mavericks faced their first nationally ranked opponent in the No.9/8 Cowgirls. OSU took two wins over Omaha on day one of the weekend's action.
 
Omaha falls to 3-8 on the year.
 
Game One: No. 9/8 Oklahoma State 8, Omaha 0 (5 inn.)
How It Happened
  • Oklahoma State led off the bottom of the first with a triple to gain an early base runner. K. Naomi would then score the Cowgirls' first run of the game on C. Alexander's single on the next at-bat. They'd take an early 1-0 lead after one.
  • In the top of the second, Burkhardt kept a hitting streak alive with a single up the middle, but she'd be left on base for Omaha.
  • The Cowgirls used another three hits in the bottom of the second to tally four more runs in the inning. Alexander got her second hit of the game with a two-run single. OSU led 5-0 after two.
  • A double from K. Petty in the third gave the Cowgirls a 7-0 lead. Jamie White hit one up the middle in the fourth inning in an effort to spark a late run for the Mavericks, but another run in the fourth gave OSU an 8-0 win in five innings.

  • Burkhardt and White tallied Omaha's only hits of the game. Burkhardt's hit improved her hitting streak to six straight games.
  • Sydney Nuismer made her first start in the circle for Omaha. She retired one Cowgirl in 2.2 innings of work. She falls to 0-1 on the year.
  • Sydney Hampton came in for relief. She pitched 1.1 innings and tallied two strikeouts.
 
Game Two: No. 9/8 Oklahoma State 8, Omaha 0 (5 inn.)
How It Happened
  • The Cowgirls put up three runs in the first two innings as the game remained close for the two teams until the fifth inning.
  • Burkhardt and Allison Helton each got on base for Omaha in the top of the fifth. Burkhardt led off with a walk, but would get out at second with Helton reaching on a fielder's choice. Helton was left stranded after two straight outs to close the top of the fifth.
  • OSU added another five to the board with an explosive bottom half. H. Busby sparked the Cowgirl offense with a solo homer to right center. Petty sent a single up the middle to tally two more RBI for OSU. A. Febrey hit a walk-off double that scored another two, which ended the inning early as OSU took an 8-0 win in the fifth.

  • The Mavericks failed to get a hit in the second game vs. the Cowgirls.
  • Hampton made the start for Omaha and pitched two innings. She falls to 1-5 on the year.
  • Kamryn Meyer came in for relief and pitched 2.1 innings. She recorded all three strikeouts for Omaha.
