Tulsa Takes Two Over Omaha Softball

TULSA, Okla. – The Mavericks played another two games at the OSU/Tulsa Invitational Saturday afternoon. This time Omaha traveled to Tulsa to take on the Hurricane. The Hurricane handed the Mavericks two more losses on the weekend taking game one, 9-4, and game two, 11-3, in six innings.
 
Omaha falls to 3-10 on the year.
 
Game One: Tulsa 9, Omaha 4
How It Happened
  • The Mavericks put up three early runs in the first inning to take the lead over Tulsa. Jamie White singled down the left field line with two outs to get on base. She advanced to second and Lexi Burkhardt reached first on a fielding error. Diana Murtha stepped up to the plate and brought them home with a three-run bomb over the center field fence.
  • The Hurricane began chipping away at the lead putting one run of their own up in the bottom of the first. Tulsa then tied it in the bottom of the second with another two runs on three hits.
  • In the top of the third, Sydney Ross gave the Mavericks another edge with a solo homer to left field. It would be Omaha's only hit of the inning to lead Tulsa, 4-3.
  • The Hurricane tied the game again in the bottom of the fourth when Shaw scored on an Omaha wild pitch. Tulsa went on to score five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up its third win of the season, 9-4.
Inside the Box Score
  • Murtha's home run marks her second of the season. She also tied her season-best three RBI in the first meeting with the Hurricane.
  • Lynsey Tucker finished with a team best two hits. She was 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Taylor Johnson pinch hit for Alexa Sedlak and tallied her second hit of the season.
  • Sydney Hampton made the start in the circle. She pitched 1.2 innings and tallied one strikeouts.
  • Kamryn Meyer came in for relief. She falls to 2-3 with the loss. She retired five batters over 4.1 innings of work.
 
Game Two: Tulsa 11, Omaha 3 (6 inn.)
How It Happened
  • Tulsa put one on the board early for the Hurricane with a run in the first inning. Murtha would help the Mavericks tie it in the fourth though. She sent a single down the right field line to send Tucker across the plate.
  • It didn't take long for the Hurricane to take another lead over the Mavericks. Ellison and Norwood each tallied two RBI with hits in the bottom of the fourth helping Tulsa to a 5-1 edge.
  • Omaha put its final two runs of the game up on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  Janae Cameron led off with a single to second base. Ross pinch ran for the catcher and would go on to score the first Omaha run of the inning after a grounded out from Tucker. Taylor Johnson pinch hit for Alexa Sedlak and tallied hit in her at-bat. She scored Omaha's second run of the game on a single from Izzy Eltze. The Mavericks trailed, 5-3, to end their half of the fifth.
  • The Hurricane saw four more runs cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth and sealed the win in the sixth with two more. The Hurricane run-ruled the Mavericks, 11-3 though six.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Mavericks tallied six hits in game two with the Hurricane. Johnson was 1-for-1, while Eltze, Murtha, and Cameron were 1-for 2. Tucker and Lexi Burkhardt each went 1-for-3.
  • Nuismer pitched a complete game in the circle. She tallied two strikeouts in the game and falls to 0-2 on the year.

  • Omaha wraps up the invitational Sunday morning with a 9:30 a.m. first pitch vs. New Mexico hosted at Oklahoma State.
