Mavericks Drop Summit League Opener at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. - Omaha women's tennis opened Summit League action Saturday morning with a match at Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles toppled the Mavericks, 7-0, for the win.

Omaha falls to 8-9 (0-1) on the year.

"It was a disappointing start to conference," said head coach Adam Summitt. "We didn't play well today. Credit to Oral Roberts for wanting it more and taking the match. We need to get better, and I believe we will."

ORU captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2-lines Saturday. Zere Iskakova and Aliksandra Lebedeva finished first with a 6-2 win over Madison Gallegos and Ines Absisan. Natalie Lorentz and Marie Kapelevich battled in the No. 2 spot, but ultimately fell, 7-5, leading to the point for the Eagles.

The Eagles took all six singles match-ups to earn the 7-0 win. Absisan and Lorentz forced third sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, but ORU's Lebedeva and Rai Sengupta locked down to take the points.

ORU clinched the match with a win at No. 5 singles. Marie Kapelevich took on the Eagles' Iskakova. Iskakova took a 6-3 win in set one and a 6-2 win in set two.

The Mavericks return to action next weekend with two matches in Denver, Colorado. First on the slate is Metropolitan State on Friday, April 2 at 3 p.m. followed by a league match at Denver on Saturday, April 3 at 10 a.m.
