OMAHA, Neb. –
Sophia Green scored a pair of goals Sunday afternoon, including the game winner, to help Omaha past Kansas City in a double overtime match-up. The Mavericks edged the Roos, 2-1.
Omaha improves to 7-2-3 on the year.
How It Happened
- Kansas Citystruck first with a shot just eight minutes into action forcing an early stop in goal by Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen. Less than two minutes later Caijah Anderson fired off another one, but this time off target for UMKC.
- Grace Ostergaard, Grace Thede, Avarie Howard, and Margaret LaVigne responded with the next four shots in Omaha's favor, but none would connect for a goal.
- The Roos converted their next opportunity and took a lead just before halftime. Anderson gave UMKC a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on a pass from Sophia Limongi.
- Sophia Green evened the match 1-1 in the 58th minute. Jordyn West sent a pass from the left side of the box to Green just in front of the goal. Green used one touch to pop it over the goalkeeper in the center of the net.
- Sydney Randall and Green would each get one more attempt on goal before the end of regulation, but the Mavericks and Roos headed to overtime once again.
- Green took two shots in the period and found the back of the net on the second to clinch the win. Grace Crockett sent a cross into the box from the right side of the field forcing the goalkeeper out of the box, but she misplayed the ball and it found Green for a wide open shot for the golden goal. Mavericks win 2-1 in the 96th minute.
