Mavericks Drop Classic Closer to UNC, 3-2

OMAHA, Neb. - Jamie White sent a two-run blast down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth to get Omaha within one run of Northern Colorado, but the Bears held on for a 3-2 win in the closer of the Connie Claussen Classic Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 5-14 on the year.

How It Happened
  • The Bears tallied the first hit of the game with a single to short stop in the first inning. The Mavericks recorded the game's next three hits in the bottom of the third. Janae Cameron led off with a single through the left side, while Alexa Sedlak and Lynsey Tucker reach on infield base hits. Omaha couldn't convert and the game remained tied 0-0.
  • Bats came alive in the sixth for both teams as each saw their first runs cross the plate. Northern Colorado jumped out to 3-0 lead following the top of the inning. The Bears recorded three hits in the action.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Tucker led off with a stand-up double to left field. Two at-bats later, Tucker was brought home on a two-run blast from Jamie White down the left field line.
  • A quick three up, three down seventh led to a 3-2 win for the Bears.

Inside the Box
  • White's homer in the sixth was her first of the season. She is hitting .245 with 12 hits on the year. White is now on a three-game hitting streak.
  • Tucker led the Mavericks finishing 2-for-2 with one run scored. After the weekend, Tucker is hitting .340 on the year to lead Omaha through 19 games.
  • Sydney Nuismer is also on a three-game hitting streak. She tallied five hits over the three-game stretch hitting .625 on the weekend.
  • Kamryn Meyer made the start in the circle. She recorded five strikeouts through six innings of work. She falls to 2-5 overall.
  • Sydney Hampton pitched the final inning of the game and retired one batter.

The Mavericks will play a rescheduled game with Creighton on Wednesday, March 24. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Connie Claussen Field.
