Meyers, Eltze Set Career-Highs in Saturday Sweep vs. UND

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha softball opened Summit League play with two wins over North Dakota Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks beat the Fighting Hawks, 4-0 and 7-2. Kamryn Meyer notched a career-best 13 strikeouts in game one, while Izzy Eltze went 4-for-4 at the plate in game two.
 
Omaha improves to 7-14 (2-0) on the year.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks only needed the first inning to capture a win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
  • Lynsey Tucker led off with a walk and stole second during the next at-back. Izzy Eltze advanced her to third base on a single to right field. UND tried to throw Eltze out at second base stealing, but an error by the short stop allowed Tucker to score on the play.
  • Later in the inning, Jamie White singled to third base scoring Eltze. White eventually scored on a triple to left center from Lexi Burkhardt. Burkhardt crossed the plate for the final run of the game on a single from Janae Cameron that went up the middle.
  • Each team recorded a hit in the fifth inning, but the Mavericks held on to win 4-0.

  • Kamryn Meyer pitched a complete game in the circle for Omaha. She retired a career-best 13 batters. Her previous high was nine batters set twice this season. Meyer improves to 3-5 on the year.
  • Meyer's 13 strikeouts is also a Summit League single-game high.
  • Eltze led the Mavericks with two hits. She finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Tucker tallied one stolen base and Eltze recorded a career-high two stolen bases in the meeting.

How It Happened
  • Omaha put two early runs on the board in the first inning. Tucker and Eltze each scored on ground outs by Sydney Nuismer and Burkhardt for the 2-0 edge going into the second.
  • Pederson led off the second with a solo homer to left field to get the Hawks on the board. Moore would tally another hit in the inning, but the Mavericks held on to a 2-1 lead.
  • Omaha added another three runs in the bottom of the third. White got on base for th Mavericks with a walk in the second at-bat followed by Nuismer who'd reach on a fielder's choice. The pair of them scored on a homer to right field from Allison Helton that put the Mavericks up 5-1 at the end of the inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Eltze tallied her third hit of the game with a double to left center that sent Emily Klosterman across home plate for Omaha's sixth run of the game.
  • The Hawks attempted another rally with a solo homer from Moore to lead off the inning, but it was the final run of the game for UND.
  • Omaha's final run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth as Elzte tallied her fourth hit with a single up the middle. Klosterman scored again helping the Mavericks to a 7-2 win.

  • Eltze finished the game 4-for-4 to record a new career-best in hits. Her previous high was two set on three occasions.
  • She recorded more than half Omaha's hits in the game. The Mavericks finished with seven total hits. Eltze had the four, while Helton, Sedlak and White tallied the other three.
  • Eltze and Klosterman each added two stolen bases.
  • Sydney Hampton pitched a complete game in the circle. She improves to 3-5 following the win, and she recorded seven strikeouts.
