NEW ORLEANS – Omaha women's tennis continue its road trip at New Orleans Wednesday afternoon. The Privateers edged the Mavericks, 4-1. Omaha captured the doubles point, but New Orleans won four singles to clinch the win.
Omaha falls to 7-8 on the season.
Madison Gallegos and
Ines Absisan gave the Mavericks an early advantage in the match winning No. 1 doubles over Tristanne Dechoux and Lina Hohnhold. New Orleans picked up a 6-4 in in the No. 2 spot forcing the doubles point to come down to the No. 3 line.
Colby Kelley and
Brooke Covington prevailed, 7-5, to get the point for Omaha.
The Privateers won four straight singles at the No. 1, 5, 6, and 3 spots to clinch the win. Absisan and Kelley wouldn't get the chance to finish their matches as the teams were playing until one clinched. New Orleans took the 4-1 win.
"Really brutal conditions today. The winds were the most extreme I've seen," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "Our team handled it pretty well, It was tough, but I am proud of the way they did compete and handle the conditions and adversity. We were pretty solid even with them and just need to build on it."
The Mavericks close their road trip Thursday with a 5 p.m. match at Southeastern Louisiana.
