OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks toppled St. Thomas Saturday afternoon winning the match 6-1 over the Tommies. Omaha swept the doubles matches for the point and picked up five of the six singles points.
The Mavericks improve to 6-7 on the year.
Ines Absisan and
Lillian Tiemeyer started the match out with a dominating 6-0 win in the No. 3 doubles to spark a clean sweep for the point.
Colby Kelley and
Brooke Covington finished next in the No. 2 spot to clinch the point, 6-3.
Marie Kapelevich and
Natalie Lorentz won, 6-4, and the Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 edge.
Covington and Lorentz extended Omaha's lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 5 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Covington beat Brook Hapuku, 6-1 and 6-0, while Lorentz downed Olivia Paradise 6-1 in both sets.
St. Thomas earned its first point of the match with a win in No. 6 singles. Clare Palen edged
Justine Linscott, 6-4 and 6-0, and Omaha would lead 3-1.
Absisan's win in the No. 1 spot clinched the Maverick win Saturday. She beat Nicole Snezhko, 7-5 and 6-2. The final two Omaha points would come from Kelley and Kapelevich in No. 4 and No. 3 singles. The Mavericks won 6-1.
"Great bounce back today," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "St. Thomas is a gritty team that fights and made us earn the win. They'll be a solid addition to our conference next year."
Omaha will return to action with three matches next week as the team heads to Louisiana. First on the slate is Nicholls State on March 16 at 2 p.m. The Mavericks will then play at New Orleans on March 17 at 2 p.m., and they will wrap up the trip at Southeastern Louisiana on March 18 at 5 p.m.
