Heinemann Nets Two in Overtime Loss at North Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. – Omaha women's soccer took its first road trip of the season to Fargo, North Dakota to take on North Dakota State this weekend. The Mavericks and Bison battled through 94 minutes on the pitch, but Marian Taiwo would complete the hat trick to hand Omaha its first loss of the season. Omaha drops a close one, 3-2.
 
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 2-1-2 on the year.

How It Happened
  • A defensive battle made for a slow start to Friday night's match between the Mavericks and Bison. Andrea Daves took the first shot of the match at the 25:37 mark. On target, Daves made Abby Wilkinson work in goal and stop it in the bottom center.
  • Eight minutes later Hannah Heinemann was open and fired a shot wide right.
  • The Bison got on board first converting on their first shot of the match. Marian Taiwo was assisted by Kelsey Kallio and Brookelyn Dew in the 40th minute to put NDSU up 1-0.
  • Heinemann took a shot at the 44:25 mark that was blocked by NDSU. Sydney Randall gave chase and sent the ball back to Heinemann who netted the tying goal with 35 seconds left in the half.
  • Taiwo and Heinemann traded another pair of goals in the second half to make it a 2-2 game. Taiwo gave the Bison a one-goal lead in the 77th minute. Heinemann tied it back up in the 81st minute.
  • With a 2-2- tie at the end of regulation, the Mavericks would go to overtime for the third time this season. Taiwo completed the hat-trick netting the game-winner in the 94th minute handing Omaha its first loss of the season, 3-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • NDSU's goal in the 40th minute is the first goal the Mavericks have given up all season.
  • Friday's match marked the second time this season that Heinemann scored two goals. She previously recorded two in Omaha's 5-0 win over North Dakota.
  • The Mavericks out-shot the Bison 14-6 and 6-5 on goal. Four players took at least two shots in the match for Omaha.
  • Margaret LaVigne, Daves, and Avarie Howard tallied two each. Heinemann and NDSU's Taiwo led the match with four apiece.
  • Grace Crockett made her first career start for the Mavericks and tallied her first assist on Heinemann's second goal of the game. Randall's assist marks the second of her career.
  • Madeline Smith made the start in goal for Omaha. She made two stops between the pipes and falls to 1-1-1.
