Mavericks Blank North Dakota, 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Mavericks posted their fourth straight shutout Monday morning in their second consecutive win over North Dakota. Omaha scored two unanswered goals in the second half to down the Hawks and sweep the regular season series, 2-0.
 
Omaha improves to 2-0-2 on the year with the win Monday morning.
 
How It Happened
  • The first half was a defensive battle between the teams. Both managed four shots, but neither team could find the back of the net.
  • Hannah Olson took the first attempt for UND in the 9th minute of action. Ten minutes later Bailey McNitt targeted the bottom left of the net, but was stopped by Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen for her first save of the game.
  • Regan Zimmers, Andrea Daves, and Laurin Mertz all tallied wide shots for Omaha in the half, but the game was tied 0-0 at the break.
  • The Mavericks needed only 33 seconds in the second half to seal the win. Sophia Green netted the game winner from inside the middle of the box to the lowed left of the goal. Hannah Heinemann and Kaitlyn Cook tallied an assist each on the play.
  • Daves added a goal in the 74th minute to make it 2-0. She sent a long ball from the middle of the field over the goalkeeper to secure the win.

  • Monday's win marked the fourth straight shutout for the Mavericks and Olesen's second of the season. She made two saves between the pipes and improves to 1-0-1 in goal.
  • The team's four shutouts ranks second in the program's Division I era single-season books. Omaha recorded four shutouts previously in 2011, 2014, and 2019. The Mavericks need one more to tie the single-season high.
  • Omaha out-shot North Dakota 14-6 and 7-2 on goal.
  • Zimmers took a career-high six shots in the match with three on goal.
  • Daves and Green tallied two each, while four other players tallied one each.
  • The 2-0-2 start is the best start to an Omaha season under head Coach Tim Walters. It is also the best start since 2006. The Mavericks opened the 2006 season 4-0-0 with four consecutive shutouts.

  • The Mavericks take their first road trip of the season and are headed to Fargo, N.D. Omaha will play at North Dakota State on Feb. 26 and Feb. 28. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on the 26th and 1 p.m. on the 28th.
