MACOMB, Ill. -
Cece Behrens put away the game winner vs. the Leathernecks in the 48th minute helping the Mavericks to their first league win of the season. Omaha downed Western Illinois 2-1 in its first match of the weekend.
With the win, the Maverick improve to 4-5-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
How It Happened
- Grace Ostergaard made it a quick 1-0 game for the Mavericks just seven minutes into the action. Sena Ahovissi sent a pass into Ostergaard who connected for her first goal of the season.
- Marissa Gohr nearly made it a 2-0 game at the 11:25 mark, but her shot was saved by Isabel Rodriguez between the pipes.
- Two minutes later WIU made it a 1-1 game with an own goal from the Mavericks. Gohr and Grace Thede put two more shots on goal for Omaha before the clock expired, but the match was deadlocked at the break.
- Behrens came out of halftime ready to convert for the Mavericks. At the 47:33 mark, the freshman midfielder put the game winner away. Ostergaard tallied an assist this time and Omaha led 2-1.
- The Leathernecks recorded their lone shot on goal in the 54th minute, but Omaha held on for the win with a save from Thigpen.
Inside the Box
- Omaha out shot Western Illinois 13-6.
- Gohr tallied a career-high five shots with three on goal.
- Behrens and Ostergaard recorded two in the match.
- Ostergaard's goal was the first of her career. Her assist was her second, and she now has a new single game career-high of three points.
