Omaha Clinches No. 3 Seed with Win vs. South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks closed the regular season with a 1-0 shutout vs. the Coyotes Sunday afternoon. Green's goal in the 63rd minute clinched the No. 3 seed in the Summit League Tournament, and Omaha will make its second straight trip to the postseason.

With the win, the Mavericks finish the regular season 9-7-2 overall and 6-3-0 in league play. The nine wins this season marks the most wins in the Division I era for the Mavericks.

How It Happened
  • Omaha's defense locked down the first half and didn't allow a single South Dakota shot in the first 45 minutes of play, but the Mavericks applied offensive pressure from the start.
  • Green made the first attack at the 2:47 mark putting the first shot on goal for Omaha. Emma Harkleroad made the early stop.
  • Grace Ostergaard tallied a shot on goal in the 24th minute with a shot from the right side of the box. Grace Thede struck three minutes later, but Harkleroad made both saves to keep a clean sheet through the first half.
  • The Coyotes found momentum going into the second making their first strike a minute and a half into the action. Alexis Mitchell put a shot on target that would be saved by Rachel Thigpen. Hannah Heinemann responded with a header that nearly made it past a diving Harkleroad.
  • In the 63rd minute, Andrea Daves set up for a free kick and sent the ball to the top of the box. Emilie Erland fired a shot that was saved by USD. Green charged the deflection and scored on the rebound to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
  • Isabelle Sorge and Taylor Ravelo attempted to tie the match for the Coyotes, but Thigpen saves clinched a win and berth to the Summit League Tournament. Mavericks won 1-0.
