Mavericks Fall Short vs. Jackrabbits

OMAHA, Neb. - Sophia Green scored in the first half leading to a 1-0 Omaha lead at the break, but the Jackrabbits responded with two unanswered goals in the second half to earn a 2-1 win Friday night.

The Mavericks fall to 8-7-2 overall and 5-3-0 in league play.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks dominated Friday's match from the first touch of the ball despite the loss. Emilie Erland, Regan Zimmers, and Andrea Daves combined for four shots in the first ten minutes. Daves' shot at the 9:48 mark was the first on goal of the match.
  • Cece Behrens nearly connected in the 25th minute but it was saved by Jocelyn Tanner in goal. Sophia 
  • Less than a minute later, Green found the back of the net for a 1-0 Omaha edge. Green collected the ball near the center line off an SDSU defender and took it down to the top of the box before burying the ball in the left of the net.
  • Neither team would get another look on goal before the clock expired, and the Mavericks led 1-0 at the break.
  • In the second half, Erland tallied the first strike at the 46:41 mark. The Jackrabbits responded in the 52nd with a goal on their first attempt of the half. Katherine Jones fed the ball to Maya Hansen who found an open Teani Arakawa who scored for SDSU.
  • Green and Cecilia Limongi recorded shots on goals for their respective teams three minutes apart, but the match remained tied 1-1 with 25 minutes left in regulation.
  • In the 80th minute, the Jackrabbits recorded another goal on their next strike. Avery Murdzek took a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced in for the lead. They held on for a 2-1 win.

Inside the Box
  • The Mavericks led 19-8 on shots and 5-4 shots on goal.
  • Erland took a season-high five shots.
  • Behrens, Grace Ostergaard, Sena Ahovissi, and Meg Nemnich tallied two each, while Green finished with three.
  • Rachel Thigpen logged a complete game between the pipes. She recorded two saves.
  • Omaha is still in the hunt for a Summit League Tournament berth. The field and seeding will be determined following Sunday's slate.

The Mavericks host South Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. for their home closer. They will honor nine seniors following the match.
