Omaha Splits First Day in Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – The Omaha softball team recorded a 6-1 victory over UNI on Friday afternoon before suffering a 2-1 setback at Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
 
With the split, Omaha is now 10-11 on the season.
 
Game One: Omaha 6, UNI 1
How It Happened
  • The Panthers scored their lone run of the game in the top of the first off an RBI double down the right field line to grab the early 1-0 lead.
  • Omaha responded in the bottom of the first when Allison Helton reached on a single and came around to score when Janae Cameron lifted an RBI double to center field.
  • Lexi Burkhardt began the bottom of the second with a walk before scoring the go-ahead run on an RBI single down the right field line by Hailey Bartz.
  • The Mavericks doubled the lead in the third when Emma Dargy reached on a UNI fielding error, allowing Grace Boganowski to race home from third.
  • Emily Klosterman singled to open the fourth and stole second before sprinting home on a wild pitch.
  • The Mavericks added another run in the fourth when Cameron singled home Jamie White, stretching the lead to 5-1.
  • Omaha scored their final run in the fifth when Klosterman's RBI double to left center scored Dargy.
Inside the Box Score
  • Cameron went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a team-high two RBI while Klosterman had a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with an RBI.
  • Helton, Dargy and Bartz recorded one hit apiece while Dargy and Bartz tallied an RBI.
  • Sydney Hampton improved to 9-3 on the season after throwing the complete-game victory.
  • Hampton allowed one run on six hits and tied a season-high with five strikeouts.
  • The 20 games are the fastest Omaha has reached the 10-win mark since the Mavericks won 10 of the first 13 games in 2014.

How It Happened
  • Northern Colorado opened the bottom of the fourth with a walk, but Kamryn Meyer retired the next three batters to keep the Bears scoreless.
  • Bartz and Klosterman drew back-to-back one-out walks in the fifth, but the Mavericks couldn't get the go-ahead run home.
  • Klosterman singled to third in the seventh to reach base with one out.
  • Diana Murtha and Taylor Johnson followed with back-to-back infield singles, bring Klosterman home to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Bears answered with a pair of runs on a two-RBI single to clinch the 2-1 walk-off victory over the Mavericks.
Inside the Box Score
  • Johnson went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI to lead Omaha.
  • Five other Mavericks recorded one hit apiece.
  • Meyer fell to 1-6 on the season after allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six in the complete-game.
What's Next
The Mavericks continue play in Greeley, Colo., with a pair of games beginning at 11 a.m. CT against Utah Valley. Omaha will also face UNI later in the day at 5 p.m. CT.
