OMAHA, Neb. – The women's tennis program fell 4-3 in a hard-fought match to Creighton Friday evening at Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Mavericks took the double point, but Creighton was able to rally back and top Omaha on four of the six singles courts.
"It was a tough match tonight," said Director of Tennis
Adam Summitt. "We played very well, but Creighton played just as wel. It cam down to the last match and they just got us. This has probably been our best match with them during my four years here. I'm proud of the fight of this team. We need to keep up the effort and finish the weekend on a good note."
For doubles, Omaha picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The duo of
Natalie Lorentz and
Marie Kapelevich won 7-6 (2) at No. 2, while
Emily Behling and
Savanna Crowell won 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, the score was tied up with a Creighton win at No. 6. Behling, however, put the Mavericks back up 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5. After the Bluejays evened the score back up at 2-all with a win at the No. 2 court, Omaha's
Natalie Lorentz gave Omaha its third point of the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Creighton, however was able to take the next two matches and with a pair of three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 1.
Savanna Crowell fell 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, at No. 3, while
Madison Gallegos dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 0-6 result at No. 1.
Omaha aims to bounce back with a home matchup against Northern Colorado slated for this Sunday, March 1, at 9:30 a.m.
