Hampton Deals No-Hitter, Mavericks Sweep UC Riverside and Michigan State

RIVERSIDE, Calif – Junior Sydney Hampton tossed the 18th no-hitter in program history since 2000 in a 9-0 victory in five innings over UC Riverside on Friday afternoon at the Amy S. Harrison Classic. The Mavericks clinched the Friday sweep with a 4-2 win over Michigan State.
 
With the two victories, Omaha improves to 9-7 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Jamie White reached on a walk and Emma Dargy singled before Diana Murtha slugged her third home run of the season to give the Mavericks a 3-0 lead in the first.
  • Sydney Ross doubled home Janae Cameron before Emily Klosterman's two-RBI single pushed Omaha's lead to 6-0 in the first.
  • In the second, Ross unleashed a three-RBI double to center, scoring Cameron, Murtha and Dargy and blowing the game wide open at 9-0.
  • Hampton shut down the first 12 batters she faced before opening the fifth with a walk on a full count.
  • Hampton retired the next batter before the Maverick defense turned a double play to preserve the no-hitter.

  • Ross hit 2-for-3 at the plate with a career-high two doubles and four RBI.
  • Murtha went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Cameron and Dargy also touched home twice for the Mavericks.
  • Allison Helton extended her hit streak to 10 games while Dargy stretched her reached-base streak to 15, one shy of her career-long.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans scored two runs on one hit and a Maverick error in the first to grab an early lead.
  • Dargy reached on a walk in the third before coming around to score when Cameron reached on a Spartan fielding error.
  • Omaha tied the game at two in the next at-bat when Ross hit an RBI single to center, scoring Murtha.
  • Cameron lifted an RBI double to right center in the fifth, followed by an RBI triple from Ross to give the Mavericks a 4-2 lead.
  • Kamryn Meyer shut down MSU in the sixth and seventh to preserve her first collegiate victory.

  • Ross and Cameron led the Mavericks with two hits each while Ross posted two RBI.
  • Five Mavericks tallied a hit and Murtha scored a team-high two runs.
  • Starter Ryanne Millington tossed the first inning while Meyer completed the final six innings.
