Softball Drops Two on Saturday

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Omaha softball team fell 6-5 to Montana before suffering a 4-3 extra-inning setback at UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, Calif.
 
With the two losses, the Mavericks drop to 9-9 on the season.
 
Game One: Montana 6, Omaha 5
How It Happened
  • Montana opened the scoring with an RBI single and a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Emily Klosterman began the fourth with a single before Lexi Burkhardt reached on an error and Allison Helton singled, setting up Jamie White's grand slam to center to tie the game at four.
  • The Mavericks took a 5-4 lead in the fifth when White hit a solo shot to center for her second homer of the game.
  • The Grizzlies tied the game back up at five with an RBI single in the bottom half of the fifth.
  • With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Montana scored the go-ahead run on a Maverick fielding error before Omaha could get the third out.
  • White nearly hit her third homer of the game in the seventh, but the play ended in a single as the ball hit the top of the fence in right field.
  • Montana retired the next two Maverick batters to clinch the 6-5 win.

How It Happened
  • Omaha jumped out to a two-run lead in the first when Taylor Johnson's two-RBI single to center brought home Sydney Ross and Lynsey Tucker.
  • UC Riverside responded with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to grab a 3-2 advantage.
  • The Mavericks tied the game at three in the fifth when Hailey Bartz raced home on an RBI single to left by Ross.
  • The Highlanders scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single down the left field line.

  • Tucker led Omaha with two hits while Ross, Johnson and Helton added one hit each.
  • Johnson tallied a team-high two RBI.
  • Ryanne Millington started in the circle for the Mavericks, pitching the first three innings.
  • Meyer tossed the final 4.1 innings in relief, striking out five batters while falling to 1-5 on the season.
