Slugfest Powers Omaha to Split

EL PASO, Texas – The Omaha softball team belted five homers in a 17-1 victory over IUPUI in five innings on Saturday afternoon in El Paso, Texas. The Mavericks suffered a 10-2 setback in five innings to New Mexico State earlier in the day.
 
The Mavericks are now 7-6 on the season after Saturday's split.
 
Game One: New Mexico State 10, Omaha 2 (F/5)
How It Happened
  • Taylor Johnson tripled to right in the first before Jamie White singled her home to give Omaha an early 1-0 advantage.
  • New Mexico State scored three runs on four hits in the second to grab a 3-1 lead.
  • The Aggies tacked on a run in the fourth before Johnson and White combined for back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth to get the Mavericks within two runs, 4-2.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, NMSU scored six runs on four hits to clinch the 10-2 run-rule victory in five innings.

How It Happened
  • In just the second and third at-bats of the game, Helton and White belted back-to-back home runs to push the Mavericks ahead 2-0.
  • The Omaha offense erupted for eight runs on seven hits and an IUPUI error to blow the game open at 10-0.
  • Emily Klosterman opened the attack with a two-RBI single up the middle to score Alexa Sedlak and Diana Murtha.
  • Helton and White hit back-to-back RBI singles and Dargy added a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.
  • Cameron added an RBI single and Sedlak reached on an error to plate two and extend the lead to 10-0.
  • The Mavericks added three in the third when Johnson belted a two-run homer and White launched her second home run of the game.
  • The Jaguars scored their lone run on an RBI single in the third.
  • Omaha tacked on three more runs when Sydney Ross lifted a three-run homer to left.
  • Madie Otte capped the scoring for Omaha with a pinch-hit double to score Murtha.
