Mavericks Topped in Road Effort at Western Illinois, 79-66

MACOMB, Ill. – The Omaha women's basketball program dropped a 79-66 decision on the road to Western Illinois Thursday evening in Western Hall. 

NOTES 
•    Omaha falls to 6-20 overall and 1-12 in league play, while Western Illinois improves to 15-12 and 9-5 in Summit League action. 
•    Rayanna Carter posted a career-high 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting. 
•    Carter now has two 20-point efforts for her career. 
•    Mariah Murdie followed with 10 points. 
•    The Mavericks fall to 4-16 all-time against Western Illinois. 
•    The duo of Josie Filer and Mikaela Ekdahl finished with nine points apiece. 
•    Ekdahl recorded career-high three field goals made from beyond the arc. 
•    Kia Wilson had a career-high four assists. 

INSIDE THE FIRST HALF 
The Mavericks and Western Illinois were tied at 10-all at the 4:01 mark in the first quarter. Over the next four minutes into the second, the Leathernecks outscored Omaha 14-9 and led 24-19 after one. Omaha cut the score to four (27-23) after Murdie hit a jumper in the second quarter. Western Illinois, however, built its first double-digit lead of the game (33-23) with 6:43 to go in the half. The Mavericks fought back and eventually pulled to within two at the 2:57 mark when Carter knocked down a jumper. At the half, Omaha trailed 38-32. 

INSIDE THE SECOND HALF 
In the third, Western Illinois went back up double-digits (45-34) two minutes into the quarter. The lead built to as many as 14 over the Mavericks with 4:08 to go in the frame. Omaha was able to answer again and cut the deficit to just six after a pair of Ekdahl free throws. WIU eventually regained an 11-point lead (60-49) into the fourth. Wilson hit a jumper with 7:03 to go in the game which capped off a 6-1 run in the quarter. The Mavericks eventually saw the deficit widen again after the Leathernecks went on to build a 16-point lead with 2:13 to play. In the end, Western Illinois outscored Omaha 19-17 in the final frame for the 79-66 result.
