Both teams were scoreless until the fifth inning, which Indiana State notched back-to-back sacrifice flies to go up 2-0 in the game.
It wouldn't be until the top of the eighth when ISU went up 3-0 on a sacrifice bunt with runners on first and third. Despite being down, Omaha was not out as Smejkal blasted a home run over left center in the top of the ninth. With two outs, Krumwiede singled for his second hit of the day. Goldston then came up to the plate and advanced Krumwiede to third on a single. Indiana State, however, was able to hold on for the win.
