Omaha Edged by Creighton, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha softball team fell 5-2 to Creighton on Tuesday evening at Westside Field at Westbrook.  The Mavericks are now 4-36 overall, while the Bluejays improved to 15-18.

Down 1-0 after one inning, Omaha countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to surge out to a 2-1 lead.  Alexa Sedlak and Lexi Burkhardt opened the inning with back-to-back singles and moved up a base on a wild pitch.  Emily Klosterman then worked a walk to load the bases.  A throwing error on Hailey Bartz' bunt allowed Sedlak and Burkhardt to scamper home and give Omaha a 2-1 lead.

Creighton regained the lead with a three-run fifth inning.  Victoria Alvarez led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Jayci Foster drove in Alvarez with a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.  Kiara Mills put CU in front 4-2 with a two-run home run off the top of the center field fence.

The Bluejays added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make the final 5-2.

Omaha starter Halley Jones (1-10) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.  Sydney Hampton allowed no hits and an unearned run over the final 2.1 innings.

Sedlak went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Mavericks.  Jamie White had a pair of hits, while Burkhardt had a hit and a run scored.

Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, April 24, against Iowa State.  First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Westside Field at Westbrook.
