OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha softball team fell 5-2 to Creighton on Tuesday evening at Westside Field at Westbrook. The Mavericks are now 4-36 overall, while the Bluejays improved to 15-18.
Down 1-0 after one inning, Omaha countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to surge out to a 2-1 lead.
Alexa Sedlak and
Lexi Burkhardt opened the inning with back-to-back singles and moved up a base on a wild pitch.
Emily Klosterman then worked a walk to load the bases. A throwing error on
Hailey Bartz' bunt allowed Sedlak and Burkhardt to scamper home and give Omaha a 2-1 lead.
Creighton regained the lead with a three-run fifth inning. Victoria Alvarez led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Jayci Foster drove in Alvarez with a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Kiara Mills put CU in front 4-2 with a two-run home run off the top of the center field fence.
The Bluejays added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make the final 5-2.
Omaha starter
Halley Jones (1-10) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Sydney Hampton allowed no hits and an unearned run over the final 2.1 innings.
Sedlak went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Mavericks.
Jamie White had a pair of hits, while Burkhardt had a hit and a run scored.
Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, April 24, against Iowa State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Westside Field at Westbrook.
