Mavericks Rally Past North Dakota State, 58-50

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit for the fifth time this season Saturday afternoon, defeating North Dakota State 58-50 at the Scheels Center. The Mavericks' sixth straight victory improves them to 18-9 (12-2 Summit League), while the Bison drop to 14-14 (8-6).

Leaders for Omaha
Matt Pile registered his team-leading eighth double-double of the season on 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor. He added two steals and a block.

Zach Jackson led all scorers with 16 points and added three rebounds, an assist and two steals. KJ Robinson joined him with 15 points, five boards, a game-high six assists and a steal.

Team Stats
Omaha, which shot just .281 (9-of-32) in the first half, finished the game at .382 (21-of-55) from the floor to NDSU's .346 (18-of-52). The Mavericks had a 38-32 rebounding edge, including nine boards on the offensive end.

Omaha had a 24-18 advantage in the paint and outscored NDSU 13-5 on second-chance points.

Inside the First Half
A slow start plagued the Mavericks in the opening 20 minutes. NDSU took as large as a 12-point lead four times in the first half, the last of which came at 28-16 on a Geu jumper with just over a minute to play. But late buckets from Robinson and Pile trimmed it back to single digits, as the Bison held a 28-20 edge at the halfway point.

Inside the Second Half
Omaha heated up to .522 (12-of-23) shooting in the second half, while NDSU cooled to .269 (7-of-26). The Mavericks held the Bison to nine points over the final 11 minutes of the game.

NDSU led until 5:46, when a Robinson triple -- his third of the half -- put Omaha up 46-45. After Shahid responded with a three of his own, the Mavericks regained the lead on a Jackson trey that made it 49-48 with 4:19 left. Another three-ball from Mitch Hahn with 1:44 to go pushed the advantage to four, and Omaha maintained the lead the rest of the way.
