Softball Splits During Day Two of Red & Black Showcase

ATHENS, Ga. – The Omaha softball team bounced back from a shutout for its first victory of the 2019 season on Saturday at the 10th Annual Red & Black Showcase.  The Mavericks picked up a come from behind 5-2 win over Buffalo just hours after they fell 16-0 to No. 9 Georgia.

Omaha moved to 1-8 with the Saturday split.

Alexa Sedlak recorded three RBI during the second game of the day to spark the come-from-behind victory against the Bulls.

Buffalo struck first on RBI singles by Alexis Matheny and Anna Aguon in the top of the third to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

Omaha answered in the bottom half of the frame.  Natalie Mostek led off with a single and then stole second.  Hailey Bartz singled to center to drive home Mostek and cut the lead to 2-1.

Buffalo starter Lace Smith retired the first two batters of the inning on ground balls. Lauren Lauvetz and Janae Cameron hit back-to-back singles to chase Smith from the game.  Mostek reached on an infield hit that drove in Lauvetz to tie the game.  Sedlak than lofted a 1-1 offering over the left field wall to clear the bases and give Omaha the walk-off victory.

Sedlak finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.  Mostek went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one.  Bartz went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Lauvetz finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Ryanne Millington (1-3) threw 101 pitches to pick up her first collegiate win.  Millington allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

No. 9 Georgia 16, Omaha 0
In Saturday's opener, Omaha fell 16-0 to nationally rated Georgia in five innings.  The Bulldog's Lauren Mathis (2-0) allowed only one hit and four walks in 3.0 innings of work.  Amanda Ablan pitched the final 2.0 innings allowing two hits and a walk.  

Halley Jones (0-2) took the loss for Omaha.  Jones allowed 10 runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks in 1.0 innings of work.  Sydney Hampton threw 2.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Savannah Fisher, Lauren Lauvetz and Alexa Sedlak each singled for the Mavericks.
