Omaha Falls to Winthrop, 9-2

ATHENS, Ga. – The Omaha softball team dropped its tournament finale to Winthrop 9-2 on Sunday at Turner Stadium.

The Mavericks moved to 1-9 on the season, while the Eagles moved to 6-4.

Leaders for Omaha
Junior Emma Dargy led the Mavericks with a double and an RBI, while freshman Alexa Sedlak also had a hit.  Senior Natalie Mostek stole two bases and scored two runs.

Sophomore Sydney Hampton (0-4) pitched 0.1 innings allowing one run on two hits and a walk.  Freshman Ryanne Millington pitched 5.2 innings in relief, allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Sophomore Halley Jones pitched the final 1.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.

Winthrop took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added two more in the second.  Omaha got on the board in the bottom of the second.  Senior Natalie Mostek reached after being after being hit by a pitch.  Mostek stole second and then moved to third on a wild pitch. After freshman Lauren Lauvetz walked and stole second, Mostek scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 3-1.

Winthrop increased its lead to 5-2 with single runs in the third and fourth innings.  The Mavericks responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Mostek walked and stole second before moving to third on a ground out.  Junior Emma Dargy doubled to right center to score Mostek and make it a 5-2 ballgame.

The Eagles added four runs in the in the top of the seventh to make the final 9-2.

Omaha returns to action next weekend at the Michelle Short Memorial Collegiate Classic in Conway, Ark.  The Mavericks play a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 22 against North Alabama and Jackson State.
