Second Half Rally Lifts Omaha Over Kansas City, 57-53

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball program rallied in the second half for a 57-53 victory over Kansas City Wednesday evening inside Baxter Arena. 

LEADERS FOR OMAHA 
Mikaela Ekdahl led Omaha (4-5) with 13 points, while Claire Killian dropped 11. Ella Ogier recorded her first-career double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also had a team-high four assists. 

LEADERS FOR KANSAS CITY 
Ericka Mattingly had a game-high 19 points on 7-of-20 shooting with five assists. Cristina Soriano followed up with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting for the Roos (4-5). 

INSIDE THE FIRST HALF 
A slow start put the Mavericks in a 19-12 hole after the first quarter. With 2:13 to go in second, Omaha trailed 28-20. The team eventually fought back and tied it up at 28-all after a corner three by Josie Filer. A back-and-forth second quarter saw the Roos lead 33-30 at the half. 

INSIDE THE SECOND HALF 
Omaha sparked a short run in the beginning of the third on a Killian 3-pointer. A minute later at the 7:16 mark, Ekdahl's layup gave Omaha just its second lead of the game at 36-35. The Mavericks kept their foot on the pedal and made it a 12-0 run after a pair of Ekdahl and Ogier treys. Despite a late surge by Kansas City, Omaha led by five (46-41) entering the fourth. At the final media timeout with 4:05 to go, the scored evened at 51-all. A quick Ogier putback gave the Mavericks a one-point lead with under a minute to go. The Mavericks eventually sealed the game on three Ekdahl free throws for the 57-53 win. 

NOTES 
•    Omaha has won two-straight for the first time this season and improves to 3-1 at home. 
•    Mikaela Ekdahl and Claire Killian are on three-straight double-digit scoring games. 
•    Ella Ogier had a career-high 12 rebounds with her double-double. 
•    Omaha's 56 rebounds are a season high. 
•    The Mavericks also won their first game of the season when trailing at the half.
