Women's Basketball Drops League Opener To South Dakota State, 68-51

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball program dropped its Summit League opener to South Dakota State, 68-51, Sunday afternoon in Baxter Arena.

LEADERS FOR OMAHA
The trio of Claire Killian, Josie Filer and Ella Ogier combined for 36 of the team's 51 points. Killian led the way with 14, while Filer and Ogier notched 11 apiece. Filer also recorded a team-high six boards in the game.

LEADERS FOR SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
Paiton Burckhard nearly had a double-double with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds on 10-of-16 shooting. Rylie Cascio Jensen was the only other Jackrabbit in double figures with 14 points.

TEAM STATS
Omaha shot 20-for-57 (35.1%) from the field, 10-for-28 from three (35.7%) and was held to just one free throw attempt (1-1). SDSU was 26-for-59 (44.1%) shooting, 8-for-21 (38.1%) from deep and 8-for-12 (66.7%) at the line.

SDSU committed just nine turnovers with nine blocks and nine steals while Omaha had 16 turnovers on 14 assists, five blocks and two steals.

INSIDE THE FIRST HALF
With the score tied at 11-all seven minutes into the game, the Jackrabbits closed out the final minutes of the quarter on a 12-2 run and led 23-13 after one. Omaha was unable to weather the storm as South Dakota State built a 44-22 lead after the second quarter.

INSIDE THE SECOND HALF
A triple from Killian made it 46-25 SDSU and stopped the Jackrabbit run two minutes in to the third quarter. An 8-0 South Dakota State run followed, however, and put the Mavericks in a 57-28 hole. After three, Omaha trailed 59-38. Omaha outscored South Dakota State 29-24 in the final two quarters, but ultimately fell 68-51 in the league opener.

NOTES
  • Omaha's 10 3-pointers are the most since the team hit 14 against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 30.
  • Omaha falls to 1-14 against South Dakota State in the Division I era.
