Omaha Drops Season Opener To Creighton, 67-54

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball program fell 67-54 in its season opener Tuesday evening inside Baxter Arena against the visiting Creighton Bluejays.

The Mavericks (0-1) put together a strong third quarter, but ultimately fell by 13 against in-state rival Creighton (0-1). 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
Ella Ogier led the way with a team-high 12 points in her collegiate debut. Ogier also recorded six rebounds and two assists. Elena Pilakouta and Kia Wilson followed with 11 points apiece.  Creighton's Temi Carda notched 25 points and went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Jaylyn Agnew recorded 14 points and five rebounds. 

INSIDE THE FIRST HALF
Omaha got a putback at the 2:55 mark by Ogier that cut the deficit to 16-9. After the first, Omaha trailed 23-13. The Mavericks found some momentum in the early going of the second quarter with a pair of buckets by Wilson and Claire Killian, which made it 23-17. A crucial and-one by Pilakouta cut the deficit to nine with just under five minutes to go in the half. The Bluejays, however, put together a run and scored a tip-in at the buzzer to increase the lead to 15 at the half, 40-25. 

INSIDE THE SECOND HALF 
A pair of Pilakouta buckets made it a 40-29 game in the opening minute of the third quarter. Wilson notched a turnaround hook shot and cut the Creighton lead to single digits with 2:56 to go in the quarter, but the Bluejays responded with back-to-back treys and made it a 49-35 game. 

With under a minute to go in the quarter, Ogier stole the ball and went coast-to-coast for a layup and a three-point play, which made it 51-42. After three, Omaha trailed 51-41. In the final quarter, the Bluejays maintained their cushion and outscored the Mavericks 16-13 over the final 10 minutes of play for the 67-54 win.
