OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team cruised to an 88-41 exhibition victory over Lakeland Wednesday night behind a trio of players who scored in double-digits and a plethora of rebounding.
NOTES
- Omaha won the rebounding battle 51-20 over Lakeland.
- The Mavericks were 56.7% from the field on 38-of-67 shooting and 34.8% from deep on 8-for-23 shooting.
- Omaha forced Lakeland to 16 team turnovers and had 12 steals.
- The Mavericks recorded 48 points in the paint, 15 fast-break points and 27 points off Lakeland turnovers.
LEADERS FOR OMAHA
Mariah Murdie led the way with 14 points, eight rebounds on 7-for-10 shooting in 19 minutes of play. Freshmen
Kia Wilson and
Ella Ogier followed with 11 and 10 points apiece. Ogier also notched seven boards and four assists while Wilson had six rebounds on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field.
INSIDE THE FIRST HALF
Omaha opened the game on a 9-0 run after buckets from
Mikaela Ekdahl,
Elena Pilakouta,
Abby Johnson and Ogier. The team had its first double-digit lead with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter after a layup from
Sophie Johnston. After the first, Omaha led 17-10. The Mavericks were able to impose their will on the Muskies and held a 27-9 advantage on the glass at halftime, up 42-23.
INSIDE THE SECOND HALF
The Mavericks sparked a 5-0 run and made it 53-26 at the 3:26 mark in the third. Omaha closed out the remaining minutes of the third quarter with a 14-6 run that began with a pair of
Rayanna Carter free throws and ended with a
Sarah Schmitt jumper. After three, Omaha led 67-32 over the Muskies. The Mavericks made it a 30-point game with 8:32 to go after Murdie recorded a steal and went coast-to-coast for a layup. Omaha proceeded to close out the game with a 47-point win over the final stretch.
