Mavericks Drop 3-1 Decision to Denver

DENVER, Colo. – The Omaha women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Denver on Sunday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, the Mavericks are now 3-9-1 (0-2-2 Summit League), while the Pioneers improved to 6-4-2 (2-0-0).

Denver jumped in front with a goal from Meg Halvorson in the 12th minute, scoring on an empty Omaha goal courtesy of an Alex Nillen pass.  Hannah Adler also earned an assist on the play.

The Mavericks leveled the score in the 35th minute.  Cydney Skinner sent a free kick that ricocheted off the left post and bounded to an onrushing Bailey Cascio who touched the ball forward and into the net to make the score 1-1 at the break.  Denver's Samantha Feller scored a pair of goals less than 90 seconds apart in the second half to put the game out of reach.

In the 59th minute, Feller poached a goal after Omaha goalkeeper Erin Bunker misplayed a cross to make the score 2-1.  Feller then headed home a Natalie Beckman corner kick to make the final score 3-1.

Turning Point
Erinoelle Clifton had a chance to get the lead to a goal in the 66th minute, but Denver's Brittany Wilson made a point-blank save.

Inside the Box Score
•    Denver outshot Omaha 14-9 and held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.
•    The Pioneers held a slight 6-5 lead in corner kicks.
•    Clifton had a team-high three shots with two on goal, while Skinner took two shots with one on target.
•    Cascio scored her second goal of the season.
•    Bunker played the full 90 minutes and made a season-high seven saves.
•    There were 27 fouls and four yellow cards in Sunday's match.
