OMAHA, Neb. – Erinoelle Clifton scored a goal and assisted on another as the Omaha women's soccer team shutout Purdue Fort Wayne 2-0 in Summit League play on Friday at Caniglia Field.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-9-1 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Mastodons are now 3-7-3 (0-3).
Omaha jumped in front with a goal from
Bailey Cascio in the 14th minute.
Andrea Daves beat a pair of Purdue Fort Wayne defenders before laying off a pass to Clifton who then set a right-footed cross into the penalty area. Cascio got between two defenders and one-timed a left-footed shot into an empty net for a 1-0 Maverick lead.
Early in the second half, Purdue Fort Wayne had a chance to level the match. Kayla Wisniewski hit a blast towards the near post, but a sprawling
Ina Gudjonsdottir made the save.
The Mavericks added an insurance goal in the 85th minute.
Hannah Heinemann played a perfect ball along the six-yard box to Clifton who placed her shot past Purdue Fort Wayne goalkeeper Haley Lydon for the 2-0 victory.
