Mavericks, Fighting Hawks Play to 1-1 Draw

OMAHA, Neb. -  The Omaha women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with North Dakota on Thursday at Caniglia Field.

With the tie, the Mavericks are now 4-9-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Summit League action, while the Fighting Hawks are now 8-3-2 (2-1-1 Summit League).

North Dakota opened the scoring early in the first half.  Karleen Yapello played a long ball from the defensive half that found Olivia Knox near the penalty area.  Knox took a touch and then fired a shot that Omaha goalkeeper Ina Gudjonsdottir got a hand on but trickled into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks had two chances in the 29th minute to even the score.  Margaret Lavigne hit the crossbar with a  volley off an Andrea Daves corner kick.  Lavigne then hit the post with the rebound.

Omaha evened the score in the 81st minute.  Kiana Dualan's header split three UND defenders and found the foot of Emily Romero neat the top of the box.  Romero took a touch and then rifled a left-footed shot into the left side of the goal to make it 1-1.

Turning Point
The Mavericks had a chance for the game-winner in the 97th minute, but Dualan's shot bounded off the post.
