EDINBURG, Texas – The Omaha women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to UTRGV in overtime on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex. The Mavericks fell to 3-7-1 on the season, while the Vaqueros moved to 6-4-1.
Emily Zapata fired a shot from 20 yards out into the upper left side for the game winner in the 101st minute.
Expected to be a defensive battle, the match played out in that manner throughout the first half. UTRGV held a slight edge at the half eight shots to five. The defensive battle continued in the second half as the two teams combined for two shots on goal.
Neither team found an advantage in the first overtime. Zapata's game-winning goal came 49 seconds into the second overtime.
