OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team topped Drake 2-1 in non-conference action Wednesday at Caniglia Field.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 3-6-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-7-0.
Omaha jumped out to a fast start with a goal in the ninth minute.
Andrea Daves forced Drake goalkeeper Kelsie Stone into a bad pass in the goal area.
Bailey Cascio intercepted the pass and then buried her shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 Maverick lead.
Omaha extended its lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute. Daves sent a pass to Cascio just outside the 18-yard box before Cascio found
Tabitha Allberg near the penalty spot. Allberg put her left foot on the ball and scored the eventual game-winner.
Drake trimmed Omaha's lead to one goal during the 71st minute. The Bulldogs' Cassie Rohan outran a Maverick defender before centering the ball to Alison Walls who scored on a one-timer.
Turning Point
Drake had a chance to level the score at 2-2 in the 76th minute, but Walls shot hit the crossbar.
