Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mavericks Drop Season Opener to Memphis, 4-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Omaha women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 4-0 loss to Memphis on Thursday evening at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

The Mavericks are now 0-1-0 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 1-0-0.

Memphis scored the first goal of the game in the 6th minute when Elizabeth Woerner gathered a loose ball in the box and finished to her right to put Memphis up 1-0.  Kimberley Smit was credited with the assist.

The Tigers made it a 2-0 game when Clarissa Larisey scored in the 18th minute.  Larisey controlled a ball punched out by the Omaha keeper Erin Bunker and then lobbed a shot over Bunker and into the goal.

In the second half, Samantha Murphy put Memphis up 3-0 with a goal in the 79th minute.  Murphy received a cross from Grace Duncan and connected with the back of the net.

Smit scored on a header in the 90th minute off a Jessica Lisi corner kick giving Memphis the 4-0 final.

Inside the Box Score
•    Memphis out-shot Omaha 20-2 in the match.  The Tigers held a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.
•    Bunker started and played 45 minutes for the Mavericks.  Bunker recorded four saves and allowed two goals.  
•    Ina Gudjonsdottir played the other 45 minutes.  Gudjonsdottir recorded a save and allowed two goals.
•    Andrea Daves and Avarie Howard each had one shot for Omaha.  Daves had UNO's lone shot on goal.
•    Margaret Lavigne and Brylie Meyer each made their first collegiate start against Memphis.  Six other Mavericks also played in their first college game.
