Pattison, Mostek Power Omaha Past Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – Kelly Pattison and Natalie Mostek homered as the Omaha softball team rallied to defeat Creighton 8-5 in non-conference action Thursday night at the CU Sports Complex.  With the win, Omaha improved to 16-28 overall while the Bluejays dropped to 22-13.

Mostek finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI for Omaha, while Pattison was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.  Aubrey Hacke and Emma Dargy each went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Omaha's Laura Roecker (2-7) tossed a complete game for the win.  She allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.  Creighton's Kiele Miller (10-6) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 3.0 innings.  Reliever Bryana Clark allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with two walks and a strikeout in 4.0 innings of work.

In the bottom of the first, Creighton put up three runs on three hits and an error.  Ashley Cantu led off with a single, and Sam Crowley reached on a throwing error.  After a strikeout, Kelli Finan hit a three-run home run to left for a 3-0 lead.

Omaha responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second.  Emma Dargy opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Jessica Nelson walked, and Demi Dobbs got hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Following a strikeout, the Mavericks plated two runs on a wild pitch and an error by the Bluejay catcher to make it a 3-2 game.

The Mavericks then took the lead in the top of the third.  Mostek was hit by a pitch to open the inning and moved to second on a groundout.  Pattison then belted a 2-0 pitch over the right-center wall to give Omaha a 4-3 lead.

UNO added to its lead in the top of the fourth.  Emily Klosterman led off with a single to center and moved to second on a Nelson walk.  The pair then pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third.  Creighton reliever Bryana Clark retired the next two batters.  Mostek then blasted a three-run homer to left field to put the Mavericks in front 7-3.

Creighton answered with two runs on two hits in the bottom half of the fourth.  Jordyn Sturgeon led off with a double.  Roecker retired the next two batters before hitting Tash Coffiel and walking Cantu.  Crowley then hit a two-run single to cut UNO's lead to 7-5.

The Mavericks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.  Aubrey Hacke reached on a fielding error to open the inning and advanced to third on Pattison's single.  Hacke came into score on Savannah Fisher's groundout for an 8-5 lead.

Roecker retired Creighton in order in the bottom half of the frame to seal the win.
