ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 2/1 St. Cloud State got an early goal and held off the Omaha hockey team, 2-0, on Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
The shutout, the first suffered by the Mavericks this season, dropped them to 4-9-2 overall and 2-4-1-0/1 in the NCHC. The conference-leading Huskies improved to 5-0-2-0/1 in the NCHC and 12-1-2 overall.
The Huskies forged ahead just 1:38 into the game when Jack Poehling stuffed home a wrap-around shot for his third goal of the year.

John Schuldt, snapped in a shot off the crossbar to make it 2-0.
The Huskies limited the Mavericks to just four shots in the third period and finished with a 38-18 advantage.
Evan Weninger made 36 saves.
The two teams finish the series on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
GAME NOTES:
- Fredrik Olofsson saw his seven-game scoring streak come to an end in the shutout. Mason Morelli, Riley Alferd and Taylor Ward all had four-game point streaks end.
- Weninger moved past John Faulkner into second all-time in UNO history with 2,612 career saves.
- The Mavericks have lost six straight to St. Cloud State.
