Mavericks Sweep Seawolves with Another Shutout, 4-0

OMAHA, Neb. – Senior Evan Weninger tied the Omaha hockey record for career shutouts as the Mavericks blanked Alaska Anchorage, 4-0, on Monday afternoon at Baxter Arena.

Mason Morelli had two goals to help the Mavericks earn a win in their final non-conference game of the season.  Zach Jordan also had a multi-point game with two assists.

The Mavericks earned their first series shutout in almost 17 years to improve to 6-10-2 overall.  The Seawolves, playing the last game of a 10-game road trip, fell to 2-15-1 this season.

Omaha opened the scoring just past the halfway mark of the first period.  Jordan drove down the left wing and threw the puck back to Nate Knoepke.  His shot from the slot was tipped home by Keck at 10:46.

Omaha used the power play to stretch its lead in the second period.  Morelli tipped home a point blast from Dean Stewart at 14:09 to make it 2-0.

Ryan Galt added a second man-advantage marker at 18:36.  Teemu Pulkkinen had his shot blocked, but the puck ricocheted off the end boards to Galt at the side of the net.  He spun and fired a shot past goalie Kris Carlson for his second goal of the season.

Morelli added his second of the game on a power play late in the third, firing in a pass from Taylor Ward for his NCHC-leading seventh power play goal of the year.

Weninger made 20 saves for the second straight game to tie Dan Ellis for the school's career record of seven shutouts.  He also moved into a tie with Jerad Kaufmann for third with his 45th career win.

The Mavericks have a weekend off before returning to NCHC play at Denver on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12.
