Mavericks Top Buena Vista for First Win, 94-58

OMAHA, Neb. -- Five Mavericks scored in double figures as the Omaha men's basketball team earned its first win of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Buena Vista 94-58 at Baxter Arena. The Mavericks are now 1-1 on the season, while Buena Vista, which played the game as an exhibition, is 0-0.

Leaders for Omaha
Senior Zach Jackson led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting with three 3-pointers, in addition to four rebounds, four assists and three steals. It marked Jackson's second straight 20-point scoring performance of the week.

KJ Robinson added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and Matt Pile had 13 points and seven rebounds. Wanjang Tut chipped in 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds, and Mitch Hahn rounded it out with 11 points, five boards and two steals.

JT Gibson had a career-high six steals alongside five points and three rebounds.

Buena Vista was led by 12 points apiece from Robert Hawkins and Dominic Sesma.

Team Stats
Omaha shot .557 (39-of-70) to Buena Vista's .418 (23-of-55) and had a 38-24 advantage on the glass. The Mavericks outscored BVU 54-12 in the paint, including 36-6 in the second half.

Inside the First Half
The Beavers, who hit 10-of-18 from long range in the first half, led until Omaha went ahead 42-41 with 46 seconds to the break. Mitch Hahn scored nine of the Mavericks' final 12 points over the last 4:15, and the game sat tied at 44-44 at the intermission.

Inside the Second Half
The second half was a different story, as Buena Vista's shooting cooled to .214 (6-of-28) and Omaha outscored the Beavers 50-14 in the final 20 minutes. While BVU went on a nearly 10-minute scoring drought, the Mavericks used a 25-0 run that put them up 90-52.
