Mavericks Fall 76-66 to Northern Arizona

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team dropped a 76-66 decision to Northern Arizona Wednesday night at Baxter Arena. The Mavericks are now 1-2 on the season, while the Lumberjacks improve to 2-1.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Senior Zach Jackson tallied in double figures for the third straight game, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a block. Sophomore Matt Pile grabbed his second career double-double on 10 points and a game-best 11 boards with three assists and a block while shooting 5-of-7 from the field.
 
Junior JT Gibson (11) and Mitch Hahn (10) also scored in double figures.
 
Leaders for Northern Arizona
Northern Arizona was led by 16 points from Davon Bolton, who added eight rebounds and four assists. Ted McCree had another 11 points and Nik Mains had 10, while Bernie Andre added seven points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
 
Team Stats
Omaha shot .409 (27-of-66) to Northern Arizona's .422 (27-of-64), and the Lumberjacks had a 42-33 edge on the glass.
 
Inside the First Half
NAU created an early deficit for Omaha, which trailed by as many as 14 when a Chris Bowling three made it 23-9 with 11:09 to the break. The Mavericks managed to lock the game in a 28-28 tie with a 7-0 run punctuated by a Pile dunk at 3:34, which was part of a greater 19-5 surge. A late KJ Robinson trey kept Omaha within one, as NAU led 32-31 at the intermission.
 
Inside the Second Half
In the second half, the Mavericks again fell behind by double digits, trailing 66-55 with 5:03 to go. A 6-0 run with a bucket from Pile and two more by Jackson trimmed it to 66-61 with 2:50 left, but it was the closest Omaha would get as the Lumberjacks responded immediately with a three from Bolton and a three-point play from Brooks DeBisschop.
