Box Score MACOMB, Ill. -- Behind 25 points from senior guard Marcus Tyus, the Omaha men's basketball team recorded the program's first road win over Western Illinois Saturday night, 79-67 at Western Hall. The Mavericks are now one-and a half games out of first place in the Summit League standings with a record of 13-11 (6-5), while the Leathernecks drop to 7-15 (4-7).

Tyus shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, to finish with his team-high 25 points, as well as six rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Junior forward Tre'Shawn Thurman added 16 points, six boards, two assists and a steal, shooting 6-of-10 for the night. Senior guard Tra-Deon Hollins came up with another 12 points, four caroms, eight assists and three steals, and sophomore guard Zach Jackson pitched in 12 points, three caroms and an assist.

Junior forward Daniel Meyer and sophomore forward Mitch Hahn matched Tyus and Thurman's team-leading rebounding effort, as they finished with six more boards apiece.

Western Illinois was led by 26 points from Mike Miklusak, who hit five 3-pointers en route to a 9-of-13 shooting night. Dalan Ancrum (11) and Brandon Gilbeck (10) also scored in double figures, with Gilbeck adding a team-high seven rebounds. Garret Covington, the No. 2 scorer in the league, was held to nine points for the night.

Omaha shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor, 50.0 percent (9-of-18) from long range and 72.0 percent (18-of-25) at the free throw line. WIU finished at 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the field, 33.3 percent (8-of-24) beyond the arc and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) at the stripe. The Mavericks had the edge on the glass, 40-31, including 11-7 on the offensive end. UNO also forced 16 Leatherneck turnovers to score 26 points off miscues and had a 13-0 advantage in fastbreak points.

Omaha never trailed in the first half, and Thurman led the way with 11 points in the first 20 minutes. At 12:11, the Mavericks doubled up WIU, 22-11, after Hollins got a steal and dished it to Tyus for a layup. Omaha capitalized on seven Leatherneck turnovers in the half for 13 points, carrying a 36-31 lead at halftime.

Less than a minute into the second half, Western Illinois used a quick 5-0 run to tie it at 36-36, then took its only lead of the night, 41-39, on a Covington jumper with 17:47 to go. Omaha heated up from there, as a bucket from Norl and three straight 3-pointers from Tyus, Hollins and Norl sparked a 15-0 run that put the Mavericks ahead 54-41.

Omaha built its largest lead of the night at 66-52 on a Thurman free throw with 4:57 left. WIU then climbed back within seven, as two Miklusak free throws made it 68-59 with 2:41 to go. But Omaha regained a double-digit advantage and never let the Leathernecks back in under nine, capping the win with a final score of 79-67.
