Mavericks Take Down Western Illinois on Senior Night

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team topped Western Illinois 3-1 on Senior Night at Caniglia Field on Thursday evening.

The win lifted the Mavericks to 5-10-1 on the season and 2-4 in Summit League action, while the Leathernecks fell to 2-15 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Omaha opened the scoring in the 37th minute.  Abby Meader played a long ball over the top of the Western Illinois defense that found Marin Dregelid who one-timed a shot from 30-yards out over the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Western Illinois tied the game 1-1 in the waning seconds of the first half when Madeline Edwards received a pass from Bianca Romay and lofted a shot over Omaha goalkeeper Haley Johnson.

In the second half, Cydney Skinner put the Mavericks up 2-1 in the 61st minute off a pass from Meader.  Andrea Daves gathered a ball on the defensive end and pushed up the field before passing to Meader who found Skinner unmarked outside the penalty area.  Skinner blasted her shot into the upper right corner for her second goal of the season.

Omaha added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Bailey Cascio received a pass from Sophia Roux and placed her shot into the lower left corner for a 3-1 Omaha lead.

•    Omaha outshot Western Illinois 13-12 in the match.  The Mavericks had nine shots on goal.
•    Haley Johnson played all 90 minutes in tonight's contest and recorded two saves.
•    Susie Dineen recorded two shots on goal.
•    Bailey Cascio scored her first career goal, and Andrea Daves recorded her first career assist.
•    Marin Dregelid and Cydney Skinner each scored their second goal of the season.

•    Following Thursday's match, Omaha honored its 2017 senior class of Jessica Bollinger, Carlie Cook, Erin Dimon, Lydia Holtmann, Haley Johnson and Natalie Johnson.
