LINCOLN, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team returned to the pool for the first time in over a month Saturday afternoon, falling to Nebraska in a dual meet at the Devaney Natatorium, 197-98.
The meet completed the weekend for the Mavericks, who were previously scheduled to take on Nebraska-Kearney in a dual meet Sunday in Kearney, Neb. That meet has been cancelled due to the forecasted wintry conditions in the state, with no makeup date scheduled.
Senior Morgan Stepp recorded the only event win for Omaha on the afternoon against NU. The Parker, Colo., native took the victory in the 200 fly with her third-fastest time on the season at 2:07.22. Stepp also swam to a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:10.22.
Both Cassie Jahn and Kylie Vermeire had multiple top-two finishes in the meet. Jahn – a short-distance specialist – placed second in the 50 free with a season-best time of 24.68. The junior also took the runner-up spot in the 100 free (53.70). Vermeire excelled in her marquee long-distance events, placing second in the 500 free (5:13.43) and using a season-low time the 1000 free (10:43.40) to finish second there as well.
