Box Score 2 OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha volleyball team battled through a pair of hard-fought matches Friday at the Omaha Classic, defeating Ball State 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-13) and Abilene Christian 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 21-25, 17-15) at Baxter Arena.
MATCH 1 -- OMAHA 3, BALL STATE 2In the tournament's opening match with Ball State, the Mavericks were led by junior outside hitter
Mackenzie Horkey's career-best performance of 27 kills on .453 hitting. The Jordan, Minn., native added 14 digs for her first double-double of the season along with two blocks. It marked the most kills in a match by any Maverick since Abby Sorensen's 26 vs. UC-Colorado Springs in 2011.

Meagen Roth also achieved a double-double -- the first of her career -- with career bests of 15 kills and 19 digs, and junior setter
Sydney O'Shaughnessy had another courtesy of a season-high 56 assists and 16 digs.

Olivia Spanton each had double-figure dig efforts as well, with Smith posting a team-leading 24 and Spanton at 12.

Ellie Brown also tallied nine kills with three blocks, and sophomore outside hitter
Kayla Torson matched her with nine more kills for the afternoon.
As a team, Omaha outhit Ball State .259 to .220 and had the advantage in digs, 96-87.
MATCH 2 -- OMAHA 3, ABILENE CHRISTIAN 2In the final match of the day, the Mavericks knocked out another five-set thriller to take down Abilene Christian. Torson paced UNO with career highs of 18 kills and 22 digs for her second double-double of the year, while Roth got her second on 14 kills and 10 digs. Senior rightside hitter
Nicki Carson had a career-best offensive effort as well, totaling 10 kills and adding three blocks.
O'Shaughnessy had her second performance of 50-plus assists for the day, finishing with 54 alongside nine digs, five kills and three blocks.
Brown added a career-high 10 kills with three blocks, while Smith chipped in a season-best 28 digs to lead the match. Junior middle blocker
Amanda Conlin led the way at the net with six blocks for the night, leading the Mavericks' best team blocking performance of the season at 10.0 total.
