Eyeing the Eagles
Eastern Washington enters Wednesday's matchup with a 5-1 record, coming off victories against Cal State Bakersfield and Saint Mary's last weekend.
Chloe Williams and Savannah Hoekstra each have four goals on the season to lead the Big Sky Conference. Aimie Inthoulay leads the NCAA with seven assists.
Chad Bodnar is in his third season leading the Eagles with a 25-14-3 career record.
Series History
Wednesday's meeting will be the first between Omaha and Eastern Washington.
Player of the Week Honors
Junior midfielder Carlie Cook and redshirt senior goalkeeper Haley Shelton have earned Summit League Player of the Week honors so far this season.
Carlie Cook was named Summit League Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her performances Aug. 22-28. The weekly award was the first of her career. Cook scored a pair of goals during the weekend. The Tulsa, Okla., native scored the game-tying goal against Creighton. She scored the game-winner against North Dakota.
Goalkeeper Haley Shelton collected the Summit League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for her performance during the season-opening weekend, Aug. 19-21. Shelton earned her first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade. She faced 17 shots and made eight saves in the win against UMKC
Last Time Out
Friday, Sept. 9 Missouri State 2 Omaha 1
Omaha dropped a 2-1 decision to Missouri State on Friday evening at Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Mo.
Molly Brewer got the Bears on the board in the 10th minute. Rachel Catrell beat a Maverick defender and slotted a pass to Brewer who found the back of the net.
Missouri State added its second goal of the half in the 33rd minute. Brewer sent a ball across the box to Ashley Coonfield who placed it low to the far side for a 2-0 lead.
Izzy Anders put the Mavs on the board in the 84th minute. Carlie Cook fought her way through a pile of players and got a pass off to Anders who calmly placed the shot into the goal.
Sunday, Sept. 11 Dayton 2 Omaha 1
Dayton scored the tie-breaking goal at the 51:31 mark in the second half to beat the Omaha women's soccer team, 2-1, on Sunday at Caniglia Field.
On the winning play, Sidney LeRoy sent a corner kick that found the head of Libby Leedom. Leedom out jumped a Maverick defender and headed the ball home before Erin Bunker could stop the shot.
The Mavericks seized the first lead of the game early in the first half. Lydia Holtmann received a goal kick and sent a pass ahead to Emily Romero. Romero then found Carlie Cook who had slipped by a defender. She shot it past an on-rushing Kaelyn Johns at 8:59.
The Flyers leveled the game late in the first half. Sara Robertson intercepted a pass near midfield and dribbled past a pair of UNO defenders. Robertson beat Bunker with a right-footed shot at 43:10.
Omaha and Dayton tied in shots, 14-14, and in shots on goal, 5-5. Dayton held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.
Carlie is Cooking
Through the first six games of the 2016 season junior midfielder, Carlie Cook leads UNO with 10 points. Cook scored a goal in three straight games to start her Maverick career becoming the first player in the Division I era to accomplish the feat. She added a goal and an assist last weekend.
Caring is Sharing
Three players have dished out two or more assists this season for Omaha. Emily Romero has three assists to lead the team and is second in the Summit League. Carlie Cook and Lydia Holtmann each have two assists.
Keepers
Three goalkeepers have seen action this season. Erin Bunker and Haley Shelton each have made two starts and have appeared in three games. Katlyn Schochenmaier played in two games with one start.
Bunker has the lowest goals-against average on the team at 1.15. Schochenmaier has a team-best .857 save percentage. Shelton has one shutout on the season while Bunker and Schochenmaier have shared a shutout.
Let's Get Defensive
With a veteran crew comprising the UNO back line this season, the Mavericks are proving to be a stout defensive side. Omaha boasts a goals-against average of 1.33 through six matches. The Mavericks have allowed just over 13 opponent shots per game, which includes two games in which the opposition had less than seven attempts.
