OMAHA, Neb. – Two first-half goals helped the Omaha women's soccer team post a 2-0 non-conference win over North Dakota on Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Fighting Hawks are now 1-2-1 overall.

Carlie Cook notched her third tally of the season in the third minute of play.  Cook ran down an Emily Romero pass and lofted a perfectly placed shot over the North Dakota keeper's head for a 1-0 Omaha lead.

Ava Doetsch added an insurance goal in the fifth minute.  Doetsch took a Romero pass and beat a pair of Fighting Hawk defenders.  Doetsch hammered a right-footed shot that glanced off the goalkeeper's hand and into the near post netting for a 2-0 Maverick lead.

Omaha nearly had its third goal of the half in the 35th minute.  Kelsey Stithem fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box that had a chance to score, but UND's keeper was able to make an acrobatic save.

In the second half, Omaha relied on its defense to preserve its 2-0 lead as the Fighting Hawks put five shots on goal.

Omaha dominated corner kicks by a 10-4 margin while Katlyn Schochenmaier and Erin Bunker split time in goal.  Schochenmaier made three saves, before being replaced by Bunker late in the first half.  Bunker made six saves and picked up her first collegiate win.

Omaha returns to action next on Sunday, Sept. 4, as the Mavericks welcome Kansas State to Caniglia Field at Noon.
