Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- The Maverick bats came alive Friday afternoon as the Omaha baseball team picked up its first win over Oral Roberts, taking down the Summit League leader 10-4 at the Ballpark at Boys Town. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 27-25 (17-11 Summit League) while the Golden Eagles drop to 33-17 (21-7 Summit League).
Senior right-hander
Tyler Fox (10-2) claimed Omaha's outright career wins record, notching the 30th mound victory of his four-year Maverick career. The Thornton, Colo., native tossed 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. It also marked his 10th win of the season, which leads the conference.
The loss went to Bryce Howe (5-4), who gave up six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over 3.1 innings of work. Junior right-hander
Shane Meltz earned his first save, throwing 3.0 innings of one-hit ball with a walk and a strikeout.
The Mavericks erupted for 16 hits as a team, led by a 4-for-5 day from sophomore
Ryan Cate. Senior
Collin Leif was also 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI, while senior
Cole Gruber went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four more driven in.

Clayton Taylor was 2-for-4, scored twice and smashed his team-leading 11th home run of the season. Junior
Sam Palensky chipped in a 2-for-5 afternoon with his first career homer.
It was Taylor who got the scoring started for Omaha, as his leadoff solo roundtripper to right center in the bottom of the first inning made it 1-0.
Oral Roberts took the lead in the second with two runs on three hits. A double down the left field line from Brent Williams led off the inning before an RBI triple to left center from Trevor McCutchin tied the game at 1-1. An RBI single to center by Trevin Sonnier later in the inning then put the Golden Eagles ahead, 2-1.
ORU added to its lead in the third. Nick Rotola led off the inning with a single to short, advanced on a groundout and scored on Noah Cummings' RBI single through the left side for a 3-1 tally.
The Mavericks, though, came back in the bottom half of the inning for two runs on four hits. Leif led off with a single to left, advanced on a wild pitch and a groundout and scored on a Gruber RBI single up the middle. After Gruber advanced to second on another wild pitch, Cate singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Sophomore
Adam Caniglia then plated Gruber with a bunt single, knotting the game at 3-3.
Omaha came out swinging in the fourth, using four hits to score four more runs. Senior
Alex Schultz singled to right and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by freshman
Riley Herold, followed by an RBI double down the left field line by Leif to put the Mavericks in the lead, 4-3. After a wild pitch put Leif on third, Taylor was hit by a pitch, which put two on for Gruber. Following an ORU pitching change, Gruber doubled to left center to drive in a pair of runs and advanced to third on the throw. Cate then singled down the left field line to score Gruber, extending the Mavericks' lead to 7-3.
Oral Roberts struck back for a run in the fifth. Rotola got on with a leadoff single through the left side, advanced on consecutive groundouts and scored on a wild pitch, cutting it to 7-4.
UNO had another big push in the fifth, sparked by a leadoff homer to left by Palensky. Schultz then walked, stole second and came in on an RBI single through the left side from Leif. A Taylor single through the right side pushed Leif to third, and after another Golden Eagle pitching change, Gruber sent a sacrifice fly to center to plate Leif for a 10-4 Maverick edge.
ORU, meanwhile, stranded five runners across the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Meltz entered the game in the top of the seventh, allowing just two baserunners with a single in the seventh and a walk in the ninth, preserving the 10-4 win.
