DENVER, Colo. – The Omaha women's soccer team closed the 2016 season on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Denver at CIBER Field.

The Pioneers broke through for a goal in the 10th minute as Leah Swander tallied her second score of the season.  The goal was set up by a pass from Angelica Pacheco in the midfield who found Swander along the right side.  Swander was able to loft a goal over Maverick goalkeeper Haley Shelton.

The second goal of the match came in the 53rd minute as Hannah Adler scored her fourth of the season.  Makenzie Bothner took a shot from the left side that Shelton was able to deflect away from goal.  Adler touched in the deflection from 10 yards out to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

Omaha looked to level the score in the 38th minute as Katie Vanderzwaag headed home a free kick from Emily Romero.  After video review, it was deemed the shot did not fully cross the goal line.  Romero tried to pull Omaha even in the closing seconds of the first half, but her shot went wide of the lower right corner.

The Mavericks finish the year with a record of 5-11-3 (3-4-1 Summit League), while the Pioneers come in at 8-9-1 (5-2-1 Summit League).
